A relationship is a connection of some kind between two things.
There are few relationship which we feel are true but when they are cut short, we feel hurt, as we are dependent on them. But once we try and live without them we might forget them.
We can establish a permanent relation with every being no matter what response we get from them as there are no expectations.
There's a famous story of a sadhu and a scorpion..
A sadhu was rescuing a scorpion that had fallen into a pond. Every time he lifted it out of water, it stung him but he would not give up until it was saved. One man asked him why was he persistent in saving the scorpion that stung him. The sadhu replied: "The nature of scorpion is to sting and the nature of a sadhu is to rescue a being from distress. So as the scorpion does not give up its dharma why should i give up mine. "
The nature of fire is to burn, of water is to cool, and of wind is to blow. And our dharma is to be humane. One should do his duty even if faced with some obstacles.
A man has three states of consciousness, the wakeful state, the dream state, and the deep sleep state.
In the wakeful state we experience through sense perception. In the dream state we develop impressions by the wakeful state experiences, in this state sense does not function. Whatever is deep seated in our mind appears in our dreams. Dreams also tell us about the innate desires and also hep us in judging ourselves. In the deep sleep state, neither the mind works nor the sense and we are completely cut off from the external world. When you have slept well you will feel relaxed. But it is impossible to be always in the state of deep sleep.
The reality of pure consciousness is eternal by its nature and therefore subsists equally during what you call waking, dreaming and deep sleep.
To one who lives with reality there is neither mind nor its three states. He is in the ever waking state coz he is awake to the eternal self, he is in ever dreaming state coz to him world is no better than a repeatedly presented dream phenomenon, he is ever sleeping state coz he is always without the consciousness.
Thus true relation is the one we need to establish with our own real self, every other relation is temporary, selfish and painful.
